Apple's first M1 Macs have defied expectations and are more powerful than anyone expected, handily beating out many other Intel Macs that Apple is continuing to sell. We've seen endless speed tests, but we thought we'd pit the M1 13-inch MacBook Pro against the model that it's replacing, the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro with 1.4GHz quad-core Core i5 processor, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645, and 8GB RAM.

Mr. Black had been approved for the Developer Early access program for Apple Silicon but we had so much to do with the pending update of VirtualEyez that we decided to wait for the consumer units to arrive. Today Mr showed up at the local Apple Store here in Area 51 at the opening bell hoping that someone would sell us a MacBook Air with Apple Silicon. No need to unbox because the Australians beat everyone to it.

In 1960, Bridget Riley went to Venice where she saw sculptures by the Italian artist Umberto Boccioni. Here is one of his sculptures. She wanted to make paintings that had curves like Boccioni’s sculptures.

In 1965 she made a bolder move still. Fragments, seven prints based on tangential images created in the course of preparatory work for a painting, were printed on Plexiglas. In each print the black image is perfectly positioned on the reverse of the sheet and a white layer, added afterwards, forms the background. These were emphatically new and fresh; in MacRitchie’s view, ‘dazzling in their composure and completeness’.
